Makyla shares her story…
My name is Makyla. I’m an alcoholic. My sobriety date is August 31, 2018. I just celebrated six months sobriety.
On addiction…
I’ve been struggling with drugs and alcohol since I was fifteen and I have been in and out of Alcoholics Anonymous since I was nineteen. I’m twenty-seven now.
On recovery…
I can truly say that Ventura Recovery Center is one of the best programs that I have been to. And I have been to a number of programs.
Ventura Recovery Center has introduced me again to the program of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Steps.
VRC has truly been the only program that has walked me through those twelve steps and taught me how to live life on life’s terms. They taught me how to apply the principles and the twelve steps into my life.
I am grateful to Ventura Recovery Center, the three owners, and especially all the clients. They teach you how to form a bond with people. You form long-lasting relationships with people.
On sobriety…
Sobriety is fun. I thought sobriety would be boring and you couldn’t have any fun. That’s not true.
Sobriety got me back into art and music. I’m able to go to concerts today and be around alcohol and still not drink or use drugs. I go out with friends today. I go to the beach, and I have a good time.
I can live my life today without being held down by drugs and alcohol.
It’s truly a miracle to be six months sober and be free.
